Steve’s career kicked off with a successful 11-year stint working for major labels, plugging bands like Nirvana (Nevermind), Guns N Roses (Use Your Illusion), U2 (Unforgettable Fire/Joshua Tree/Rattle and Hum), The Christians, Whitney Houston (Bodyguard), Toni Braxton, Cher, Aretha Franklin, The Cult, House Of Pain, the Charlatans, Snap, Haddaway to name but a few….and in the mid 90’s devised and executed several big-selling compilation album concepts including the hugely successful Top Gear series (with Jeremy Clarkson - on Sony), and Asian Beat Bazaar (Virgin/EMI).
Steve jumped off the major label conveyor belt in 1997 to live a dream, playing in and co-writing and producing for the band Trickbaby. Following the huge success of the band’s debut single, Indi-Yarn, the first Hindi language single to be playlisted by the UK’s BBC Radio 1 the band became main players in the UK ‘Asian Underground’ scene, but really took off in India, culminating in working on several Bollywood films, including Rohan Sippy’s ‘Bluffmaster’ (one of the bigger Bollywood soundtrack albums of recent times), Art-house director Nagesh Kukunoor’s Hyderabad Blues, & Ashok Thakaria’s film ‘Pyare Mohan’. Trickbaby have now sold over 3 million units to the Indian worldwide Diaspora and regularly contribute music to films both west and east. They are currently working on a new album for 2012.
Steve’s eclectic music taste lead to a return to radio (“I just love radio “) and TV plugging in 2003 alongside playing in Trickbaby and his company (Chachaman) now successfully promote a roster including Ben Harper, Big Head Blues Club, The Black Angels, Brothers Of Brazil, Buffalo Tom, Drive By Truckers, Flogging Molly , The Gaslight Anthem, Gogol Bordello, Jesse Malin, Grupo Fantasma, Asian Dub Foundation, Kailash Kher, Kottarashky, Nada Surf, Niyaz, Midival Punditz, The Posies, The Reverend Peyton and His Big Damn Band, Son Of Dave…..to name but a few.
